The San Antonio Spurs signed a free-agent contract with Nick Van Exel, second among active players in 3 pointers this week.

The terms of this NBA deal were not disclosed, Marc Stein (ESPN) reported that San Antonio were able to sign Van Exel (gaurd) without cutting into the estimated $2.5 million they have offered free-agent swingman Michael Finley (Dallas) for the next NBA season.

Van Exel, now 33yr old is coming off a NBA season in Portland which he posted some of the lowest numbers of his 12yr NBA career. Nick averaged a total of 11.1 points, 3.0 rebounds and 4.3 assists in 53 games for the Trail Blazers.

For San Antonio, however, Nick's scoring ability just might help this teams offense sence this Spurs team sometimes has trouble putting points on the scoreboard.
