Detroit Pistons Joe Dumars (President of Basketball Operations) announced this week that the club has signed forward Dale Davis to a multi year NBA contract.
The terms of the contract were not disclosed.
“We are excited to add Dale to our teams roster for this upcoming NBA season,” said Dumars. “Davis is a veteran his presence has proven himself in the regular NBA season and NBA playoffs. His defensive skiils, presence and rebounding will help solidify our team while his experience will provide added value in the locker room.”
Dale, spent the last NBA season with the Golden State Warriors and Indiana Pacers, where he averaged 4.7 pts, 6.7 rebounds, 1.07 blocks and 21.4 minutes in 61 regular NBA season games. In his 25 games with the Pacers, Davis averaged 6.9 pts, 8.9 rebounds and 1.32 blocks to end the NBA season. Originally selected by The Pacers with the 13th overall pick in the 1991 NBA Draft, Dale played his 1rst 9 NBA seasons with Indiana setting his playoff franchise marks in all 3 rebounding categories (338 offensive rebounds, 627 defensive rebounds, 965 total rebounds).
When Davis was traded to Portland in exchange for Joe Kline and Jermaine O’Neal, he was a teammate of the current Piston Rasheed Wallace for 4 NBA seasons from 2000-2003. Dale returned to the Pacers last year and joined Reggie Miller (18) Vern Fleming (11) and Rik Smits (12) as only the 4th player in Indiana's history to play at least 10 NBA seasons with the Pacers.
