The Boston Celtics have been trying to develope a top notch young point guard since they acquired the likes of Marcus Banks in 2003. Banks has been a major disappointment, and by trading him for Dan Dickau (PG) last week, the Celtics appear to be trying very hard to fix this position by throwing bodies at it.
The 2nd year G Delonte West is a good candidate to start with , but keep an eye out also for a 2nd round pick Orien Greene of Louisiana Lafayette. Greene is a big 6ft 4inch, 208lbs strong defender, "He was the 2004-05 Sun Belt defensive player of the year and has the fundamentals to win" says Doc Rivers (Coach).
It's likely that Boston will go with a new, young, defense minded bench rotation at the guard and small forward spots: Greene (PG), Tony Allen (SG) and Justin Reed (SF).
The 76ers Billy King (GM) points out that it would be impossible for his team to give the 6 year deals to G/Fs Kyle Korver & Willie Green that have been so widely reported .
Because Willie Green and Kyle Korver each have played only 2 NBA seasons, the longest they could sign for under NBA rules is 5 yrs. Korver's contract, is for 5 yrs and $20 million, and Green's is for 5 yrs and $15 to $18 million. Green's contract is still in limbo, though, because of a bad knee injury suffered in a pickup game.
Detroit Pistons Flip Saunders (Coach), has rounded out his coaching staff with Sid Lowe and Don Zierden 2 members of his T'wolves assistants already on board.
The Pistons Team president Joe Dumars confirms that Flip is talking with former NBA Gaurd Ron Harper, Saunders old friend who shares the same agent, Mark Termini. Harper had helped Saunders with his training camp last Oct.
