Just how close was Dennis Rodman planning to play for the Cavaliers last spring?
It Depends on who you ask.
According to Darren Prince, Dennis Rodman's agent, after several conversations with Clevelands Dan Gilbert (Owner), "We're expecting nothing less than an offer for a 10 day contract within the next 48 hrs."
But, Prince said, the offer for Dennis never came and Gilbert simply just stopped taking his calls.
Now, with the NBA training camp opening at the beginning of Oct., Prince has to wonders why the Cavaliers would not consider bringing Dennis to training camp this fall since they showed interested last spring.
Since Rodman played with Michael Jordan, he'd like to play with LeBron James, Prince says. Rodman views Lebron as "an up and coming Michael", according to Prince.
"We would like an open invitation to come in and show what Dennis can still do. All we ask is Just bring him in on a non guaranteed NBA contract.
According to a Cavaliers, Prince and Rodman initiated all contact last spring and Gilbert says he merely just took their calls. However, a Cavaliers source and an NBA source with some knowledge of this situation said the new ownership was very intrigued by the possibility of Rodman joining the team, although that's no longer the case.
"We currently have no interest but we wish Dennis the best," says the Cavs General Manager Danny Ferry.
